Bruz Beers is hosting another round of their Learn About Belgian Beers classes. These classes cover the basics and major categories of Belgian beers and you get to taste a dozen of them while learning about history and characteristics of each. Tickets are $25 for either the February 2 or February 16 sessions, however Bruz typically offers these classes twice a month along with homebrewing courses so no worries if you can’t fit it in your February calendar. Check out their website for the most up-to-date schedule.
In keeping with the education-related theme of one of last week’s posts, Bruz Beers will offer classes on Belgian beers and also homebrewing. The World of Belgian Beers workshops cover the history and characteristics of 12 different Belgian beers, which you also get to sample. The Homebrewing Series teaches 4 levels starting with beginner and looks to have a relatively thorough curriculum. All of the workshops repeat on a regular basis. Check out the Bruz Beers Workshops link for all the details.
Seriously, this “Summer School” is WAY more fun than it sounds! For six weeks starting May 10, seven Denver breweries are hosting a Summer School program that lets you dig deep into various brewing methods and learn the science and methodology behind their brewing. The small (12-person) classes will rotate through a different brewery each week and receive 2-3 hours of instruction on the unique brewing style and process of that particular brewery. Finally, on June 30 Intrepid Sojourner Beer Project hosts the graduation bash to celebrate your newly-gained beer knowledge.
This knowledge doesn’t come cheap, with tickets going for $399 but the program offers loads of perks, unique experiences, and discounts to help compensate (check out the link above). Then again, think of it like college – spend a bunch of money, go to class, drink beer – except this time you can actually learn something useful!

A friend of mine is studying to be a cicerone and giving beer appreciation classes to help prepare. The next one – Beers of Belgium – is Saturday October 29 at Smiley Library in the Tennyson neighborhood from 1:00-3:00. It’s open to the public and totally free. Afterward the class will adjourn to De Steeg Brewing to apply lessons learned. Last week was German beers and was very informative, followed by great company and discussions. Stop on by!
