Weekend Beer Update

This weekend brings a whole lot of activity across the metro area and beyond, with multiple anniversaries, Day of Dorks, a new Beer Bus and other assorted fun & games. 

westfax-bar.jpgFriday 8 – Saturday 9: Celebrate three years on West Colfax with WestFax Brewing Company. Over the course of the weekend they’ll release seven new beers, treat beer-lovers to a concert, bring in food trucks, and have some other fun treats like anniversary glassware, beard trimming and axe throwing.

Friday 8 – Sunday 10: If you’re looking to take a field trip, Gilded Goat Brewing Company up in Ft. Collins marks their second anniversary with a weekend of fun. They’ll have special tappings and bottle releases along with birthday cake, a toast with the mayor, raffles, giveaways and a commemorative glass for the first 50 customers on Saturday.

Saturday 9: Anniversaries continue, with Zuni Street Brewing Co. marking two years with a full-on celebration in their parking lot offering up the usual food trucks and live music along with art from local artists, pottery painting, yard games, a photo booth, and topping it off with a bouncy house.

Saturday 9: Rounding out the anniversary celebrations, New Image Brewing Co. in Arvada brings on the special releases, live music, and new merchandise for year number three.

Saturday 9: The Beer Bus concept comes to southeast comrade-taps.jpgDenver, with busses running from 1 – 9 p.m. between Platt Park Brewing Co., Comrade Brewing Co., Grandma’s House and Copper Kettle Brewing Company. It costs just 5 bucks to ride all day and if you complete each brewery you get a coupon for a free beer. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 9: It’s finally time for Day of Dorks! Wynkoop Brewing Company’s celebration of geeky and quirky beers takes over the upstairs pool room from noon – 4 p.m. with over 30 breweries pouring their dorkiest stuff. Geek-wear is encouraged. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Sunday 10: The monthly incarnation of Bluegrass Brunch comes back to Station 26 Brewing Co. Starting at 11 a.m. they’ll bring in a food truck and bluegrass band for you to relax and recover from the weekend.

Lady JusticeSunday 10th: Join Lady Justice Brewing’s Big Fun Celebration at their shared space with Factotum Brewhouse. The party will celebrate two of Lady Justice’s Community-Supported Beer Membership grant recipients with music, a food truck, and of course beer!

Weekend Beer Update

This weekend brings a great mix of festivals if you want to put down roots or crawls if you want to get out on the town, though quite honestly with the weather forecast my choice is going to be holing up somewhere warm!

Friday 1: With herds of Girl Scouts roaming the town peddling their treats, Goldspot Brewing Company gets in on the action by hosting a beer and cookie pairing matching four of their beers to complementary Girl Scout cookies. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Friday 1 – Sunday 3: Station 26 Brewing Co is trying out station-26-bar.jpga novel approach for 303 day by holding 303 WKND with events all over Denver. Friday features Happy Hour deals  around town where Station 26’s 303 Lager is served. Saturday gets more ambitious with a 303 Lager Bar Crawl to five different downtown bars. Get to Freshcraft at 2:00 p.m.to get your punch card, drink a beer at each place and have your card punched, and get Station 26 swag at the final destination around 6:30 p.m. Finally on Sunday Station 26 brings it home to their taproom and hosts a craft market with local vendors, artisans, food, and music.

Saturday 2: The Mile High Beer Festival returns to Denver, this year at a new location – Number 38 in RINO. This year’s version features almost 40 Colorado breweries pouring over 90 craft beers. With two sessions, plus VIP options, everyone will have plenty of time to enjoy the goodness! Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 2 – Sunday 3: Also making a return appearance, the Bacon, Beer and Coffee Festival hits Denver Beer Co at 8:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Get a breakfast burrito, coffee, and as much bacon as you can handle along with a Denver Beer Co coffee mug to fill with breakfast-inspired brews. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Zuni Street BarSaturday 2: If you’d rather be more mobile, the monthly West Side Brewery Bus Loop will transport you between four breweries for only 5 bucks, and if you finish all four you get a free beer on your next visit. This month’s breweries are regulars Zuni Street Brewing Co.Little Machine Beer,  Joyride Brewing Company with Seedstock Brewery rotating in. First bus leaves at 2 p.m. and in honor St. Patrick’s this month’s theme is the color green.

20180106_150906_HDRStout Month continues, with numerous breweries keeping extra taps flowing and others doing special releases or rotations throughout the month. However if stout isn’t your thing there are plenty of festivals and gastronomic experiences, plus a few oddball events, to keep you busy and keep your thirst at bay this weekend.

Feb 8-10: Ratio Beerworks celebrates four years with a weekend-long party offering music and food trucks every day plus special releases on Saturday and a Sunday brunch.

Friday 8: Every month Bruz Beers tries to bring some 20180721_135240_HDRclass to the beer scene by featuring a different artist in their taproom. This Friday they’re hosting a reception for Brett Matarazzo’s February installation from 6 – 9 p.m. so come on out and get a little culture with your beer.

Saturday 9: Really not sure what to make of this one. The Wizards and Witches Beer Festival is a Harry-Potter-themed fest featuring over 20 winter, pumpkin, and holiday beers. The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at The Church on 12th Ave and Lincoln Street so it’s got some potential to be a little over-the-top. Or just cheesy. But you won’t know if you don’t go. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 9: In another wacky one-off event, Wynkoop Brewing Co. hosts the Beer Drinker of the Year competition. Participants will be tested on their knowledge, passion, and commitment to beer, and it appears audience participation will help determine the winner. Plus Wynkoop promises some free beer and giveaways. The warm-up starts at noon with the competition firing up at 1 p.m.

Saturday 9: On Tennyson Street,  Hops & Pie will hold the OG Whales of Craft Beer Fest showcasing over a half-dozen of the original and legendary brews that garnered early craft beer fame. We’re talking famous brews like Russian River Brewing Company’s Pliny the Elder and Dogfish Head’s 120 Minutes, so settle in for an afternoon of drinking!

20181224_150254_HDR[1]Saturday 9: For the fourth year in a row Fiction Beer Company has paired with a bakery – Cake Crumbs Bakery & Cafe this year – to put together beer & cupcake pairings with four beers paired with four special cupcakes.

Sunday 10: It’s Station 26 Brewing Co.’s monthly Bluegrass Brunch. Get an early start, as the food, beer and music starts at 11 a.m.

Sunday 10: For more of a fine dining experience, sign up for Briar Common Brewery’s  five-course beer-pairing dinner from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Note: This is a ticketed event.

 

Weekend Beer Update

It’s a festival-filled weekend from the Front Range to the mountains, with three big fests rolling out the welcome mat. However if festivals aren’t your style, the weekend also offers plenty of options from music to brewery-hopping to food-focused events.

Thursday 10 – Saturday 12: Celebrate eight years of sour beers at Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project. Starting Thursday Crooked Stave will offer special beer releases, unique guest beers, food, and commemorative merch.

Thursday 10 – Saturday 12: If you can handle the weekend ski 20160721_201225_HDRcrowds, take a ride up to the Breckenridge Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival for brewing seminars, beer dinners, pairings, homebrew competitions and of course lots and lots of big beers! The main tasting event is Saturday afternoon, with the competitions, seminars, and food events going throughout the weekend. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Friday 11: In the Tennyson neighborhood, the Northwest Beer Fest takes over the Oriental Theater with beers from ten local breweries along with wine and cider. Note: This is a ticketed event.

20180212_171117_HDRSaturday 12: Celebrate five years of beer with Kokopelli Beer Company and enjoy their award-winning beers along with a special release, swag and prizes.

Saturday 12: The LowDown Barrel-Aged Beer Festival comes to South Broadway with 14 brews including several from Lowdown plus eight guest breweries. This festival is a bit different, as you pay for your beers as you go vs. getting one all-in ticket.

Saturday 12: Hop on the January edition of the West Side Brewery Bus Loop which will visit Little Machine Beer, Zuni Street Brewing Co., Joyride Brewing Company and this month’s special guest Briar Common Brewery. From 2 – 10 p.m. a bus will circulate between all the breweries. Tickets are $5 and you get a free future beer for completing all four breweries. This ride’s theme is 1980’s-1990’s.

Saturday 12: Get your gourmet fix at Living The Dream Brewery’s Charcuterie at the Brewery. From 3 – 4:30 p.m. enjoy a pairing of five beers with specialty meats and cheeses from Whole Foods. Note: This is a ticketed event (buy at the door).20180527_134218_HDR

Sunday 13: Bring a dish to share and enjoy live music at SomePlace Else Brewery’s Thom & Coley Concert and Potluck. It appears that the duo plays country music. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Sunday 13: Enjoy food and music starting at noon at this month’s Bluegrass Brunch brought to you by Station 26 Brewing Co.

Weekend Beer Update

This weekend comes jam-packed with anniversaries and ugly sweater parties, plus a few culinary events and – if you are willing to brave the elements a bit – the monthly brewery bus tour. Cheers!

Friday 7 – Sunday 9: Up in Brighton, Something Brewery celebrates their third anniversary with a weekend-long party focusing on unique beer releases including a cookie-themed lineup on Friday and barrel-aged beers on Saturday.

Saturday 8 – Sunday 9: One of the newest entrants into the brewery20181201_180521_hdr.jpg scene celebrates its first anniversary this weekend. Alternation Brewing Company will mark their first anniversary with bands, food, and their first foray into canning and bottling.

Saturday 8: Time to break out the hideous Christmas clothing for what has become an annual tradition: The Ugly Sweater Christmas Party! Kicking off the season, Westfax Brewing Company starts the fashion freakshow at 11 a.m. with some free glassware plus food and of course a prize for the ugliest sweater at 1 p.m.

Saturday 8: Things will also get ugly at Landlocked Ales in Lakewood, as they host an ugly sweater charity 5k run along with an ugly sweater party and contest. The entry fee gets you a bunch of swag and supports Drink for Pink Colorado, or you can just come to drink some beers and gawk at the sheer ugliness of it all. Note: The race is a ticketed event.

Saturday 8: On a nicer vibe, Dry Dock Brewing Co. also gets into the holiday spirit with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. In addition to the festive pair, Christmas carolers will help set the holiday mood.

Saturday 8: Not to be left out, Strange Craft will hold their own ugly sweater party starting at 6 p.m. and will also celebrate the anniversary of Wit’s End Brewing Company, which merged into Strange last year.

Saturday 8: The anniversary-filled weekend continues with Lone Tree Brewing’s seventh, featuring special beer tappings, food, and a casino night benefiting Freedom Service Dogs.

Saturday 8: Up in Longmont, Grossen Bart Brewery turns four with special beer releases, music, giveaways and even face painting.

Saturday 8: Also up north, Asher Brewing Company in Boulder holds their ninth anniversary bash with pours of their organic beer (it’s Boulder of course!) along with food and a photo booth.

Saturday 8: The final up-north anniversary this week is Funkwerks’ eighth, where they will release two special beers for the occasion, with a free cheers at 5 p.m.

Saturday 8: Back in Denver, Our Mutual Friend Brewing Company celebrates six years with special bottle and tap releases.

20170211_211127Saturday 8: For foodies, Fermaenta Brewery will host an all-day beer and cheese pairing that matches four of their beers with four cheeses selected by a Certified Cheese Professional (sort of like a Cicerone of cheese). Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 8: For those with a sweet tooth, Fiction Beer Company Fiction Beerpairs four of their beers with chocolates custom-designed by Chocolate Lab all afternoon. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 8: If all of these options have your head spinning, then take the easy route and latch on to the West Side Brewery Bus Loop, which this month includes Joyride Brewing Company, Call To Arms Brewing Company, Westfax Brewing Company and Zuni Street Brewing Co. As usual, a $5 ticket gets you a ride on the bus from brewery to brewery and those who complete all four get a free future beer. Start at any of the participating breweries and, no surprise, the theme of the month is ugly sweaters.

This weekend looks to be a transitional weekend with summer-oriented outdoor events giving way to indoor fall-type events with comfort food and darker beers. Of course there are the usual suspects for brunch, music, and anniversary parties as well.

Friday 9 – Saturday 10: WeldWerks Brewing Co. in Greeley celebrates the milestone of brewing 100 beers in a year with special re-releases both days for onsite consumption and/or takeaway.

Saturday 10: Get up early and head to Westfax Brewing Company for their all-you-can-eat Brewery Brunch Buffet catered by Stupid Awesome! The brunch starts at 10:30 a.m. and includes a beermosa. Note: This is a ticketed event. Purchase in advance or day-of.

Saturday 10: If brunch wasn’t enough, slide into comfort food season with Copper Kettle Brewing Company’s Mac N Cheese Cookoff from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Entry is free and the winner takes home a free keg of beer! Note: For tasting this is a ticketed event.

Saturday 10: Sour fans, head to Sanitas Brewing Company in Boulder for Sanitas Sour Day 2018 featuring over a dozen of their house-made sour beers.

Saturday 10: Alpine Dog Brewery has made to four years! Join the celebration by enjoying special releases & collaborations, music, food and giveaways.

Saturday 10: For a full afternoon & evening of fun, join this month’s West Side Brewery Bus Loop starting at 2:00 p.m. at any of the participating breweries: Little Machine Beer, Joyride Brewing, Zuni Street Brewing Co. , Diebolt Brewing. The theme this month is Thanksgiving/Movember and tickets are only five bucks, plus score you a free future-visit beer when you complete the loop. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 10: For an excursion from Denver, visit the All Colorado Beer Festival at Chapel Hill Mall in Colorado Springs with 64 breweries and 2 cideries pouring over 200 beverages. On second thought, might not be a bad idea to reserve a hotel! Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 10: The fifth annual Nitro Fest at Left Hand Brewing Company in Fort Collins brings a boat-load of smooth-pouring dark beers from around the world set to live music and a voodoo masquerade featuring aerialists, acrobats, and fire dancers.  Note: This is a ticketed event and themed dress is expected.

Sunday 11: Another day, another brunch. Station 26 Brewing Co. will hold their monthly Bluegrass Brunch with food, music and of course beer – all starting at 11:00 a.m.

Sunday 11: After filling up on brunch, head to RINO for Mockery Brewing Co.’s Veteran’s Day Beer and Cookie Pairing, with proceeds going to help support veterans’ charities.

Sunday 11: Grab your banjo and head to Seedstock Brewery for their Bluegrass Jam and Beer from 4:00-6:00 p.m. You can join in the jam with fellow musicians or just kick back with a beer and listen.

Weekend Beer Update

The post Halloween weekend serves up a few final thrills and chills, along with a whole bunch of anniversaries. In addition, Saturday is Learn to Homebrew Day and many local homebrew supply stores are offering free classes and other events if you want to take your beer love to the next level! Check out places like The Brew Hut, Broadway Brew Supply, CO-Brew, and many others for information and instruction.

Friday 2: Connect with the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos at Dos Luces Brewery with face painting, sugar skull painting, candy and other treats.

Saturday 3: In what’s probably the first event of the its kind this season, Avery Brewing Co.’s Ugly Sweater Party runs all day, and anyone wearing an ugly sweater gets a free pint of Old Jubilation.20161203_160811_HDR

Saturday 3: Head to RINO for Mockery Brewing’s fourth anniversary with block party offering up live music, special tappings, screen printing and food trucks.

Saturday 3: If downtown is more your game, Jagged Mountain Brewery makes it five years with a special anniversary beer – Belgian Quintuple aged on oak – along with six other beer tappings.

Saturday 3: The longest-tenured brewery to hold an anniversary this weekend is Upslope Brewing Company in Boulder, which makes it a nice round ten. The party will spill out into the back parking lot with over 40 beers on tap, live music, food, games and even a cheese and beer-pairing Happy Hour (ticket event).

FictionSaturday 3: Fiction Beer Company will help ease the transition from Daylight Saving Time with Descent Into Darkness, which taps nine dark beers for you to cozy up with on the long, dark nights.

Saturday 3: Estes Park gets into the time change in its own way with the Fall Back Beer Fest, offering up samples of over 100 beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages along with music, food trucks and vendors. Chat with brewers, learn about homebrewing or even walk away with one of the prizes being offered. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Sunday 4: Regardless of what goes on in the stadium, you can still find happiness before next Sunday’s game on the Broncos Beer Bus which starts at WestFax Brewing Company at 11 a.m. and then stops at Joyride Brewing Company,20180621_172209_HDR Oasis Brewery and Zuni Street Brewing Co. before reaching Mile High and looping back to the start. The free bus runs hourly starting three hours before the game so you can even make a couple of loops if you think the game will be particularly painful.

Sunday 4: As usual, the first weekend of the month brings a number of cultural events and Alpine Dog Brewery will host Sunday Night Culture Club with beverages and the photography of Zachary Wilson.
