Weekend Beer Update

This weekend is absolutely packed with beer-drinking fun! From anniversaries in south Denver to festivals in northern Colorado there’s no shortage of stuff to do. Add in what’s shaping up to be decent weekend weather and there’s no excuse not to be out and about grabbing a few brews and catching some rays!

Friday 26 – Sunday 28: For an action-packed weekend head to Copper Kettle Brewing Company for their 8th anniversary celebrations. Friday kicks off with a release of five sours, multiple food trucks and a band. Saturday brings the Staff Showdown where each staff member has brewed a beer and customers vote for their favorite, plus more food and music. Sunday keeps things going with a cellar draught release of aged beers from 2014-2018 and a Hangover Brunch.

Friday 26: For something unique head up to Longmont for Primitive Beer’s barrelhouse opening. Primitive focuses on spontaneous, barrel-fermented beers. Between the hectic schedules of the owners, who both work at other breweries, and the limited quantities of the beers, Primitive only opens for a few hours twice a month.

Friday 26: In Boulder, Microbreweries for the Environment brings bluegrass music and beer from almost twenty breweries to the Boulder Theater in support of a good cause. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 27: Another southeast Denver brewery celebrates an anniversary, as Comrade Brewing Co. marks five years with special beer releases, food trucks and souvenir glassware. Since they’re just a couple miles apart, a bus will circulate between Comrade and Copper Kettle’s party for just five bucks.

Saturday 27: Now that we’re finally getting warm-ish weather, it’s a great time to check out Halfpenny Brewing Company’s Biergarten Opening! Oddly for a biergarten theme, it has mostly British elements – a fish & chips truck plus the release of a bitter. Whatever nationality, it ought to be nice to hang out in the sunshine with brew and listen to some live music.

Saturday 27: Get your hop on at Verboten Brewing and Barrel Project’s IPA Bash in Loveland. Verboten plans to offer over 15 different versions of IPAs including fruited, sour, and the ubiquitous hazy.

Saturday 27: If you’re already up north, why not stop by Longmont and Wibby Brewing’s Ancient Steinbeer Brew and Crawfish Boil. Wibby’s brewmaster will illustrate the ancient art of brewing a steinbeer, complete with fire and the chucking of red-hot stones into wort. The fires will be put to further use for s’mores roasting, complemented by a crawfish boil from 3 – 6 p.m. To round out the day, Wibby will also feature ice carving and live music.

Saturday 27: Also up north, High Hops Brewery’s Patio Party brings food, music and the tapping of a special spring Berliner weisse. Looks like good weather will be part of the package as well.

Saturday 27: Back down in Denver, another Crawfish Boil fires up at Station 26 Brewing Co. with beer, mudbugs, and live music.

Saturday 27: Rye Fest 2019 comes to Chain Reaction Brewing Company, bringing unlimited tasters of rye beers from over a dozen Colorado breweries. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 27: The fourth annual celebration of Reinheitsgebot, Germany’s Beer Purity Law, takes place at Mockery Brewing with their Reinheitsgewhat? party. They’ll mix things up with music from a polka/metal band along with a number of special releases that don’t exactly adhere to the law, but are likely to be tasty nonetheless.

Saturday 27: For a slightly healthier option, jump on the West Side Brewery Bike Loop. Participants get a discounted beer at each of the five participating breweries along with a free beer voucher for finishing all of them. A group ride leaves at noon from Westfax Brewing Company, or ride at your own pace starting at any of the breweries during the afternoon. The other participating breweries are Joyride Brewing Company, Hogshead Brewery, Seedstock Brewery  and Oasis Brewery.

Sunday 28: For lovers of Belgian beer, Bruz Beers’ Belgian Brew Fest is a can’t-miss, with pours from 10+ breweries, live music and food. Special guest breweries Duvel and Ommegang will also be on hand for your drinking pleasure. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Sunday 28: What goes together better than beer, tacos, and live music? The Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco, and Music Festival brings all three to Fiddler’s Green. With tastings of over 100 beers, lucha libre wrestling and some pretty big names in punk music (The Offspring, Bad Religion to name a couple) this looks to be one helluva party.  Note: This is a ticketed event.

Sunday 28: For a more cultured experience, drop in on Living the Dream Brewing Company’s Night Photography Class. Over some great beer, Darren White will explain techniques for better nighttime photos such as focus, exposure, stacking, noise reduction and post processing ideas. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Weekend Beer Update

This first weekend of spring brings a diverse mix of events including some anniversaries, some openings and the first annual Big Reveal where participants do blind tastings of Colorado beers, with the winners revealed during the event followed by more tasting.

Wednesday 20 – Saturday 23: Head up to Loveland for the multi-day sixth anniversary party at Verboten Brewing and Barrel Project. In addition to the usual special releases, Thursday features a four-course Anniversary Dinner and on Saturday the big guns come out with more releases, brewhouse tours, cake and music.

Friday 22: Down in Colorado Springs Brass Brewing Co. kicks off their first anniversary party mid-afternoon with a beer release followed by food and music.

Saturday 23: What might be the most interesting event of the weekend, The Big Reveal at Union Station will serve 20 Colorado-made American IPAs in a blind tasting and attendees will get to vote on their favorite. Once the votes are counted the winners will be revealed and attendees can go back and re-sample all the beers. The event is sponsored by the Colorado Brewers Guild and PorchDrinking.com to cap off Colorado Craft Beer Week. Joyride Rooftop Patio Under Construction

Saturday 23: The long-awaited rooftop patio at Joyride Brewing Company makes its debut with great views over Sloan’s Lake on what looks to be a relatively mild spring day.

Saturday 23: One of my favorite breweries, Weldworks Brewing Co., celebrates four years with their Super-Time Great-Fun 4th Anniversary Get-Down. They’re thinking big and will take over their entire parking lot, put up a big-top tent and bring in multiple food trucks. All of that on top of the usual special tappings and release of two barrel-aged barley wines. Saturday’s gonna be huge!

Saturday 23: Taking over the former Caution space in Lakewood, Olde 121 Brewhouse holds their official Grand Opening with six of their beers on tap plus a collaboration with The Grateful Gnome as well as some live music. In addition to beer, Olde 121 plans to make their own craft soda and serve flavored hot and iced teas.

Sunday 24: Wrap up the weekend with some music and fun at Seedstock Brewery’s weekly Bluegrass Jam from 4-6 p.m. If you want to join in you can bring your own instrument, or just kick back and relax with a brew.

Weekend Beer Update

This weekend brings an interesting mix of events across the metro area, from festivals to anniversaries and a few interesting one-offs. If you have some time to kill, it’s also not too early to book tickets to the Day of Dorks at Wynkoop on March 9 where you can geek out to some wild and wacky beers!

Friday 18 – Sunday 20: Greeley’s Wiley Roots Brewing Company just completed their brewery expansion and it’s so big they’ve set aside a whole weekend to celebrate. Starting Friday they’ll begin releasing five new beers accompanied, of course, by brewery tours. Note the new address: 625 3rd Street Unit D.

Saturday 19: Another event up north, Verboten Brewing & Barrel Project in Loveland will turn its taproom into a Stout-lover’s heaven by pouring 20 different stouts at their inaugural Stout Fest. Many of these will be taproom-only pours including small-batch and barrel-aged releases. The ticketing situation is mixed: you can buy an unlimited-sampling ticket, get a 10-beer punch card or go a-la-carte and purchase individual samples.

Saturday 19 – Sunday 20: Up in Golden, Cannonball Creek Brewing Company celebrates six years with special tappings, food, and live music.

Saturday 19: Starting at noon, Stem Ciders also celebrates an anniversary; five years at their Walnut Street location in Rino.  They’ll have bluegrass music to accompany their special releases along with free swag for the first 50 attendees. Thought not exactly beer, these guys have some tasty, tasty ciders!

Saturday 19: Prost Brewing hosts a rebranding party starting at 3 p.m. While it sounds like a bit of a stretch for a party theme, who really needs an excuse to check out some delicious Prost German-style beers (not changing with the rebranding) and the new logos and updated taproom?

Sunday 20 – Seedstock Brewery hosts it’s weekly Bluegrass Jam from 4 – 6 p.m. Bring your own instrument to join in or just kick back and enjoy the jam and a beer.

Weekend Beer Update

The run-up weekend to the July 4th holiday looks pretty quiet for events, but a lot of breweries have special beer releases this weekend if you are so inclined. Or you could go low-stress and relax on a patio somewhere with a cool brew on a hot day.

Friday 29 – Saturday 30: Last Call at Caution Brewing Co.! Caution will close its doors June 30 and in effort to drink down their last supply they will throw a two-day party with  giveaways, kill-the-keg contests, and other fun shenanigans.

Saturday 30: The West Side Brewery Bike Loop hits the road again, this month with a patriotic red, white, and blue theme. The official route begins at noon at Westfax Brewing Company and runs through Joyride Brewing Company, Hogshead Brewery, and Seedstock Brewery but realistically you can start any time to do a self-directed tour. Get $1 off a pint at each brewery and a free beer voucher when you complete them all!

Saturday 30: Hopheads rejoice! Renegade Brewing Company starts a new tradition with their first annual Hop Head Festival featuring special beer releases, food, music, games, and other hop-themed activities. Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 30: If you’re already in the neighborhood for Renegade, why not check out Intrepid Sojourner Beer Project’s graduation party for the Craft Beer Summer School? The party starts at 3 p.m. and aside from the proud graduates, Intrepid Sojourner will pour guest taps from all of the participating breweries.

Saturday 30: Up north in Loveland, Verboten Brewing and Barrel Project combines several great ideas with their Beer Bacon Coffee Donuts event from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., although naturally the beer continues all day and beyond!

Weekend Beer Update

It’s looking like a great weekend to take dad out for a beer! Saturday has the most options but Sunday has some Father’s-Day-specific events. Or perhaps you’d rather just treat yourself to a refreshing beverage, whether you’re a father or not, since there are loads of choices!

Thursday 14 – Sunday 17: If the city heat is getting you down, head to the Vail Craft Beer Classic. Four days of fun features about a dozen beer events from tastings and food pairings to hard-core outdoor events like hiking and biking with the brewers. Note: Many of the events are ticketed.

Friday 15 – Saturday 16: Parker’s Barnett & Son Brewing Co. will celebrate their third anniversary with food and music on Friday and a crawfish boil on Saturday.

Saturday 16: Toyota enthusiasts rejoice! Copper Kettle Brewing Co. will hold their second annual Toyota Truck Meet & Greet for truck owners to show off their ride, enjoy some beer, and grab some food. The event runs from noon-4 p.m.

Saturday 16: Just down the street from Copper Kettle and starting at 5 p.m., celebrate Lowry Beer Garden’s sixth anniversary with their BBQ and Beer Fest featuring 25 beers from 8 local craft breweries, BBQ, and live music.  Note: This is a ticketed event.

Saturday 16: From 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Stanley Marketplace joins forces with Holidaily Brewing Co. and Gluten Free Explorer to offer a unique spin on beer & food pairings with tastes of gluten free beers and pizza.

Saturday 16: Several Aurora breweries will join Dry Dock Brewing Co at their South Dock location (Hampden & Chambers) for the A-Town Funk Fest featuring brews, food, and a DJ. The funkaliciousness runs from noon-5 p.m..

Saturday 16: Finally! An excuse to wear your T-Rex costume! Billed as a day of beers, music, and dinosaurs, Dinosaur Ridge’s Brontos and Brews Festival in Morrison will attempt to set the Guinness world record for the most people dressed like dinosaurs. The costumes might be hot, but the organizers are promising plenty of cold beer.

Saturday 16: The IPA Bash at Verboten Brewing & Barrel Project in Loveland pretty much speaks for itself: 14 different IPAs including guest taps and a collaboration brew.

Saturday 16: Check out the newest brewery in the metro area as Redgarden Restaurant and Brewery holds their grand opening in Louisville. For the special occasion they plan a pig roast in addition to serving up their farm-to-table menu and pouring house-made beers.

Sunday 17th: Happy Father’s Day! Several breweries have activities set up for you and your dad to bond over a brew. At 10:30 a.m. Baere Brewing Co. will host Father’s Day yoga followed by a beer. Starting at noon Seedstock Brewery has multiple seatings for their second annual Father’s Day Crawfish Boil, and will offer $1 off beers to dads all day! Finally, at 3 p.m. Station 26 Brewing Co. fires up their Surf & Turf & Surf with a special surf & turf menu accompanied by surf music. Note: Baere and Seedstock are ticketed events.
